open streaming service

🌐 oio.radioradio

What started as a quick experiment to connect people during the COVID-19 Pandemic, oio.radio quickly became a community streaming service, playing across isolation stations and Zoom social events, uniting remote workers worldwide under a common soundtrack.

oio.radio is an open and inclusive platform where anyone can stream their content from their laptops and mobile phones. A simple Google Sheets spreadsheet controls the website and background animations. Streamers can announce upcoming shows, coordinate stream times and keep the discussion going on the dedicated Discord channel. So far oio.radio has hosted many conversations and mixtapes, connecting people from all around the world. If you are interested in hosting the next transmission you can join our Discord chat.

How does it work?

The web radio front-end is open source and available on GitHub, it's a simple website embedding an audio element. The cool part of this project is how we manage the full backend through a simple Google Sheet spradsheet, that you can see here. The streaming stack is based on Icecast, and hosted on a secret server floating in international waters.
